/k/ (pronounced "kah") are specialists in embedded Java solutions for applications such as:
- industrial monitoring and control;
- access control, environmental control of buildings;
- service-on-demand and telematics;
- domotics, residential gateway.
/k/ is probably best known as the developer and maintainer of Mika, our VM and class libraries targeting embedded systems. Naturally /k/ offers consultancy, training and support contracts for users of Mika, but we also do much more: for example. we are authorised resellers of Apogee's Aphelion range of JRE's and we have extensive experience of OSGi technology and OSGi frameworks such as Knopflerfish, Apache Felix and Concierge, plus a range of add-ons and customisation services for Mika.
Through partnerships with suppliers of embedded Java software and hardware, /k/ can also assist with all aspects of Java-enabled embedded devices, and provide support and training services to your engineers and customers.
How can we help you?
- Helping you choose a hardware platform. We work with a number of manufacturers, from chip and module makers to complete system integrators, so it's possible that we are already familiar with a design which has most or all of what you want.
- Helping you choose an embedded VM for your device. We have a natural predilection for Apogee's Aphelion VM and of course Mika, but we also take into account specialised VMs such as Aicas' JamaicaVM or Sun's open-source (GPL) phoneME.
- Assistance with porting the VM to the target, and setting up an appropriate development environment.
- Support and training for OSGI, one of the most exciting Java technomogies for devices.
- Help in developing application- and platform-specific software, for example native-code interfaces to deviced drivers or non-Java resident applications.
